Access Control:
Badges provides a cryptographic mechanism for verifying that members have access to the same Badges without disclosing personal identities. Additionally, Badge owners can issue cryptographic Vouchers to their members, adding another layer of security.
Physical Pairing with Members via Bluetooth:
Highlighting the critical risks associated with key provisioning and exchange over the Internet—even with HTTPS—Badges incorporates physical and proximity pairing using Bluetooth. This method mitigates the risk of man-in-the-middle attacks and ensures non-repudiation among members. It also fosters a network that consists predominantly of individuals closely connected to each other.
Anonymity in Messaging, Classifieds, and GPS:
Employing innovative Linkable Ring Signatures (LRS) over elliptic curve (P-256), Badges ensures member anonymity. All messages, images, classifieds, and GPS points transmitted are secured with end-to-end encryption and benefit from the cryptographic assurances provided by LRS.
Anonymous Badges Properties:
When establishing a Badge, users can designate whether they alone can add members or if other Badge members may do so. Furthermore, users can choose whether only they can send messages, images, and classifieds to the Badge or if this privilege extends to all members. This feature is particularly beneficial for creating professional Digital Badges.
Badging Functionality:
Each Badge serves multiple functions: granting access to events, facilitating service entry with vouchers (such as private clubs), attesting to privileges granted by others, or validating badge ownership.
Voucher Functionality:
Badge owners have the ability to distribute cryptographic vouchers seamlessly among their members.
Cloud-Based Synchronization:
Badges operates with automatic synchronization across all devices linked to the same iCloud account via iCloud Keychain and iCloud Drive. Users can initiate discussions on an iPhone and seamlessly continue them on an iPad. With end-to-end security in place, all message-related content is securely stored on external cloud servers, effectively minimizing local storage consumption while ensuring convenient access across devices.
